Yet Again, The World Lives On

I woke up today and found to my smirking dismay that the world did not end. I expected at least one thunder/lightning, let alone earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. Nay, it was a huge disappointment. But National Geographic's 'Doomsday Preppers Season 2' picked up its TV rating, thanks to the Mayan calendar. Talks and rumors of a massive cataclysm turned out to be an as-usual hoax. The deity Itzamna which helped the Mayans frame this 'long count calendar' seems to have made a mistake.

Cues from a long destroyed civilization and there were people to buy these stories. The US government had to write a blog post to allay fears of its young citizens. Yes, there was fear widespread. People unusually offering more prayers to cleanse them of their iniquities, in one hand. And the others partying hard and doing stupid things thinking their time is fast running out. 'Miss extra-terrestrial contactee' Nancy Lieder's Nibiru cataclysm story was also mixed with this and that pushed NASA to write in its website stating all these are false and fictitious.

There was a Harold Camping of May 21, 2011. And now a Mayan Calendar. What's next? Hoaxes will come and go, but there would still be takers for any story spun. Because the human mind is in its relentless search for the truth which is driven primarily by fear. A broken pot cannot hold water, a heart full of fear cannot grasp truth. Fear upsets things. It shatters peace. Leads us to falsehood. What if the world really has to end? What if death has to strike us the very next moment? Why would we fear? Isn't life worth more than all those fables of destruction! Fear is for those who live insincere fake lives filled with malice.

Harold Camping or the Mayan calendar or Nibiru cataclysm or a road accident or a serious ailment or whatever, the world would end for everyone one day. Do not fear. Appreciate life. Excel in all you do. Help others. Be happy.
